The Territory Government is taking full advantage of the Building the Education Revolution plan, which will benefit schools throughout the Territory. Under the plan, fifty Territory schools are set to receive nearly $77 million to build or upgrade libraries, multi-purpose halls and classrooms. This funding comes on top of the $74 million provided to 37 Territory schools in May. The plan, an initiative of the Australian Government, has three elements:
| • | the maintenance, renewal of school buildings and minor building works in all schools |
| • | the construction or upgrade of libraries, multi-purpose halls and classrooms in all primary schools |
| • | the construction of 500 new science laboratories and language learning centres in high schools across the country. |
The plan is a key part of the $42 billion National Building and Jobs Plan, which will support up to 90 000 Australian jobs over the next two years. The Territory is set to benefit from other measures of the national stimulus plan, including road maintenance, energy efficiency for houses, and public and defence housing.
